If you are an adoptive parent of a child from China or you plan to adopt, we want to invite you to join Families with Children from China-Houston. FCC-Houston is one of many independent FCC chapters that have developed in cities across the U.S. to provide information, educational and cultural programs, and informal support for families with adopted Chinese children.
FCC-Houston organizes a wide variety of special events for parents and families throughout the year. These range from our annual celebration of the Chinese New Year to get-togethers at many Houston area attractions of interest to our members. We also have programs featuring films and guest speakers on topics related to adoption, child development, health, and other areas. For people in the waiting stages of adopting from China, we hold a series of seminars that give prospective parents of Chinese children an opportunity to meet FCC-Houston parents who have recently returned home with their new child. FCC-Houston is also the springboard for a number of play groups in the Houston area. These are informal monthly gatherings at parks in different areas of the city. The play groups offer a great way for our children to make friends and maintain connections with other children adopted from China.
The cost of FCC-Houston membership is currently just $25. Members receive our newsletters, which announce and describe all our events. Members also may subscribe to our FCC-H email list, destined to replace our paper communications. Whether you want to get the details on upcoming FCC-H programs, share information on area resources, or discuss anything else of interest to our members, the list serve provides a wonderful convenience.
Through all our programs, FCC-Houston helps promote the well being of our children and our families. We are a growing organization, and we’re interested in addressing the varied needs of our expanding and increasingly diverse membership. We'd be delighted to have you join us. Please print and complete the Membership Form and mail it with your check to:

Join our Members-Only E-Group
As a member of FCC-Houston you have the option of joining our members-only e-group, "FCCHlist" which is a listserv or email group. It is basically a managed email distribution list. This means that you, as a member of the group, have the ability to send email to the group (e.g., "post") by using a single email address - in this case, email@example.com - and have the email automatically forwarded to all other members of the group. Similarly, other members' postings (or posts) are automatically forwarded to you. It is an easy way to share information with other people of similar interests. One requirement of the FCCHlist E-Group is that you maintain your current FCC-Houston membership. FCC-Houston annual membership is a $25 tax-deductible donation to FCC-Houston. Please read above our Membership section to join.
Topics of discussion typically include: FCC-Houston business and events; program announcements; website updates; raising children and specifically internationally-adopted children in the greater Houston area (schools, daycares, playgroups, developmental issues, interaction with society, quality family activities); the activities and workings of the local Asian communities in the greater Houston area; subscribers' evolution as parents, families, and adoptive families and parents; and adoption and specifically international adoption. Note that FCC-Houston also welcomes families who have adopted elsewhere in Asia, and so FCCHlist probably will soon also include posts by parents who have adopted or will adopt in other Asian countries.
FCCHlist is managed by a moderator. The moderator has multiple duties, depending on how the group was set up. One key duty is to maintain the list and make sure that the membership is accurate (contains the correct email address for the members) and current (i.e., contains only dues-paid members of FCC-Houston). Currently, posts are not generally reviewed by the moderator. This means that any mail you send to firstname.lastname@example.org is distributed immediately -- it is not reviewed by anyone prior to distribution to the members of the email group. Note, also, that the moderator may change this if the postings stray too far (for any reason) from the intended purpose of FCCHlist.
If you have questions regarding the FCCHlist, please contact Randy Brannen at email@example.com.
